evaluation PDF Print E-mail

Scheme of evaluation in the course is based upon grade points. The number of credits assigned to each course describes its weightage.Credits indicate the  weightage given to a particular course content compared to the other contents covered in the course. The weightage given to a particular course determines the importance and length of that course, and the amount of time required to be devoted to reading and learning the particular course content.

The total numbers of hours available for theory and practica courses and credits for the three phases are given below–

The evaluation of trainees is based on a system of continuous comprehensive evaluation. The details of modalities and criteria of evaluation in each of the three phases of the course are described below.

Evaluation of DLP

Evaluation during DLP is based on theory courses in the form of 60 self-learning units clubbed in 14 modules sent to you during the six-month period. The table given below shows the credits assigned to each module which indicates its weightage in the entire course. The length of the units, time required to read and comprehend the matter, and to do the exercises and activities account for the variation in the credits assigned to each module

Submission of assignments is compulsory. You will not be allowed to join the Contact
Programme (CP) unless you have completed the assignments satisfactorily. For each
course you will be expected to do one assignment which will be evaluated by a tutor at the study centre. The assignments should be submitted on A4 sheets. Portions of the curriculum on which the assignments have been based will not be included in the written examination.

b. Portfolio Assessment

Portfolio assessment has already been explained under transaction of the course. 20% weightage will be given to portfolio assessment. A sample of maintaining record of your activities is shown below.

As already stated, the second component of the contact programme is the supervised field experience organised in schools. The trainees will be given practice in simulated conditions which will be tried in real life setting in the schools.
The different activities conducted in each of the above practica are elaborated in
the Practicum Handbook. The trainees are also required to maintain and submit written report for each of the school sessions detailing the activities conducted in them. The written reports are submitted to the respective school supervisors who will be evaluating them.
Evaluation of practica is done on the basis of your performance, first for planning
and preparation of an activity as shown during practice sessions in classes, secondly in school situations during administration of tests, talks, discussions, organisation of
displays, handling of cases and thirdly on reports submitted by you throughout the
duration of the contact programme. Please note that in order to be eligible to appear in the written examination for each theory course, you are required to complete the work related to each practica and submit the report. The weightage given and credits assigned to each aspect of practica is given below.

Evaluation of Internship (GC 120)

The total credits assigned for the internship component are 7 and the available hours  are 210.

Credits

The total credits are distributed on three aspects of internship, i.e. initial need
analysis and planning of the project, organisation and implementation of the project,
and preparation of report. Assessment on these aspects will be done by two supervisors
— one internal (at the study centre) and another external in the institution or city/
home town/country of the trainee appointed by the study centre.
The project taken up by the trainee will be assessed in terms of its scope, relevance
and implementation prospects. Evaluation system shall also assess the knowledge
and skills of the trainee in organising activities in the school/institution where
internship is undertaken. Evaluation shall also be based on the observations of the
supervisor at the school/institution regarding punctuality, quality and quantity of
work done etc. The external supervisor should convey in a sealed envelope his/her
evaluation of the internship programme undertaken by the trainee which will be sent
to the coordinator at the study centre by the supervisor.

The internal supervisor at the study centre will evaluate the trainee on initial
planning and preparation, theme identification, need analysis, seminar presentation,
frequency and quality of interaction during the internship programme, and the report
of the work done. The distribution of credits for the two supervisors and criteria of
evaluation are shown below.

If a trainee is declared as unsuccessful due to unsatisfactory performance on internship, s/he will be required to repeat part or entire internship programme or as deemed fit by the coordinator at the study centre.

Qualitative Evaluation

Trainees will be evaluated on some identified qualities, knowledge, skills and attitudes
which are evident in their behaviour and are unique to their personality, identified
during the course especially from the point of view of their ability to work and function as effective professionals in this field. This will be included in the form of a descriptive account of their characteristics, strengths as well as qualities on which they need to improve upon.

Grading System

Grades are used to evaluate the performance. In addition to grading the trainees in the course as a whole, grade will be given for individual learning activities completed by the trainees throughout the course such as assignments, tests, practicum work, practice sessions conducted in the schools, and internship which will be converted into points for the purpose of calculating Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Trainees will be graded on A to C scale, A+ being the highest and C, the lowest grade.

The correspondence of the grades to the grade points assigned is as follows—
The grade point average (GPA) will be calculated as given below. On the basis of
the grading assigned by the evaluator for each assignment/practica/school sessions/
internship/written examination, the corresponding grade point is multiplied by the credits allotted to a particular course, e.g. if a trainee gets grade A+ in counselling, the corresponding grade point is 6, if credits given to counselling are 5, the cumulative grade point is 5 × 6 = 30.
In brief,

(i) Multiply the credits by the points assigned to the grade concerned.
(ii) Add all the points arrived at for all the courses.
(iii) Divide the points by the total number of credits.
(iv) The total grade point divided by the total number of credits indicates the

Commutative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Trainees getting ‘C+’ and ‘C’ grades will not be eligible for the award of the diploma.
If a trainee is not able to appear in the examination due to illness or some other personal reasons, it will be stated in the mark-sheet of the trainee.
Trainees would be required to complete all theory, practica activities and internship
programme to become eligible for the award of the diploma. A minimum Cumulative
Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a scale of 6.0 would be required at the end in
order to make a trainee eligible for the award of the diploma. On successful completion of the course, diploma will be awarded to the trainees by the NCERT
.

Criteria for Award of Diploma

In case you fail to get a passing grade, i.e. ‘C’ in the written examination, you can reappear next year at the same time. You can take the examination, while your registration remains valid, i.e. for a period of two years from the date of admission.

  1. In order to be eligible for the award of the diploma, it is necessary for a trainee to obtain at least ‘B’ grade in each of the theory and practical courses, including the internship programme.
  2. The following rules will apply to those trainees who are not able to secure the required grade to qualify for the award of the diploma:
  • Trainees obtaining less than ‘B’ grade in one or more than one course will have to re-appear and clear these courses while their registration remains valid, i.e. for a period of two years from the date of admission.
  • The re-appearing trainees, provided they have secured required grades in all the practica, can appear for re-examination on request at a date given by the study centre in the next academic year.
  • There shall be no provision for re-evaluation of answer scripts of the written examination.
  • Trainees who fail to secure ‘B’ grade in any of the practical courses will have to repeat the entire course, including all the practica and theory courses, conducted during the subsequent academic session.
  • Trainees who fail to secure ‘B’ grade in the internship programme will have to repeat only the internship component of the programme as directed by the study centre where they are enrolled.
