Scheme of evaluation in the course is based upon grade points. The number of credits assigned to each course describes its weightage.Credits indicate the weightage given to a particular course content compared to the other contents covered in the course. The weightage given to a particular course determines the importance and length of that course, and the amount of time required to be devoted to reading and learning the particular course content. The total numbers of hours available for theory and practica courses and credits for the three phases are given below–
*one credit is equivalent to 30 study hours. The evaluation of trainees is based on a system of continuous comprehensive evaluation. The details of modalities and criteria of evaluation in each of the three phases of the course are described below.
Evaluation of DLP Evaluation during DLP is based on theory courses in the form of 60 self-learning units clubbed in 14 modules sent to you during the six-month period. The table given below shows the credits assigned to each module which indicates its weightage in the entire course. The length of the units, time required to read and comprehend the matter, and to do the exercises and activities account for the variation in the credits assigned to each module Trimester I
Trimester II
Total of Trimester-I and Trimester-II = Units 35 + 25 = 60, Credits 9.50 + 6.50 = 16.00 Component of Evaluation and Credits :-
a. Evaluation of Assignments The assignments carry 30% weightage of the total credits for theory courses. Credits given to assignments for different courses are shown below. The grade given on the assignment will be included in calculating the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The related courses given in the two trimesters have been clubbed together for the purpose of showing credits for assignments. Assignments
Submission of assignments is compulsory. You will not be allowed to join the Contact b. Portfolio Assessment Portfolio assessment has already been explained under transaction of the course. 20% weightage will be given to portfolio assessment. A sample of maintaining record of your activities is shown below.
You may develop a similar proforma for each unit.
Record of work done with regard to self-check and self-evaluation exercises, activities, tutorials attended, and interaction with the mentor, maintained in the portfolio, will be evaluated at the study centre .
Written Examination Written examination is the major component of the evaluation of the theory courses
Eligibility for Written Examination To be eligible to appear in the written examination in any course, you are required to fulfill the following conditions–
Credits assigned to written examination are 50% credit weightage to different (related courses of Trimesters I and II) courses is shown below: Written Examination
Duration of Examination The duration of examination depends on the credits assigned to the course. Since all the fourteen modules are either for 2 credits or less than 2 credits, the duration of the examination will be as follows (as per the distance education norms):
Evaluation of Practicum During Contact Programme The total credits assigned for the practicum component are 14 and the available hours are 420. The credit points pertaining to the five practica are given below.
As already stated, the second component of the contact programme is the supervised field experience organised in schools. The trainees will be given practice in simulated conditions which will be tried in real life setting in the schools.
GC 115 Group Guidance Practicum
*Note: The core areas/components will remain the same though there may be flexibility in the choice of tools/tests. GC 116 Practicum in Psychological Assessment*
GC 117 Practicum in Collection, Management and Dissemination of Information
GC 118 Practicum in Career Development
GC 119 Counselling Practicum
Evaluation of Internship (GC 120) The total credits assigned for the internship component are 7 and the available hours are 210.
The total credits are distributed on three aspects of internship, i.e. initial need The internal supervisor at the study centre will evaluate the trainee on initial
If a trainee is declared as unsuccessful due to unsatisfactory performance on internship, s/he will be required to repeat part or entire internship programme or as deemed fit by the coordinator at the study centre. Qualitative Evaluation Trainees will be evaluated on some identified qualities, knowledge, skills and attitudes Grading System Grades are used to evaluate the performance. In addition to grading the trainees in the course as a whole, grade will be given for individual learning activities completed by the trainees throughout the course such as assignments, tests, practicum work, practice sessions conducted in the schools, and internship which will be converted into points for the purpose of calculating Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Trainees will be graded on A to C scale, A+ being the highest and C, the lowest grade.
The correspondence of the grades to the grade points assigned is as follows— (i) Multiply the credits by the points assigned to the grade concerned. Commutative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Criteria for Award of Diploma In case you fail to get a passing grade, i.e. ‘C’ in the written examination, you can reappear next year at the same time. You can take the examination, while your registration remains valid, i.e. for a period of two years from the date of admission.
